Intro for TDP (version 2)
3 PB Ideas: Jonathan Fanning
Dori Durbin:
Welcome back to, that's Good Parenting. This is a special edition for you parents. I'm still your host, Dori Durbin, children's book, illustrator, author, podcaster, and coach. And recently I have had the joy of talking with Jonathan Fanning. If you didn't catch that episode, it's right before the soak up back and listen, Jonathan has amazing content, but one thing we talked about was how we can raise kids with real intention.
Kids who can build courage. Resilience and connection in their everyday lives. So today I want to do something really special using Jonathan's big ideas from his podcast. I kid size them into three picture book concepts. These could become books that you as parents could reach your kids again and again.
And also at the same time, these books would sneak in life lessons to help your kids get more out of life, to be more courageous, more resilient, and more purposeful about what [00:01:00] they do. So here's where I'd love for your help parents. I would love your help choosing which of these three books to create.
And after you hear the three, you'll head over to my Facebook page and vote for your favorite. Okay, you got it. Great. Let's begin.
Book number one is called Brave and Daring Day. Ella and her dad make a Saturday morning list of brave and daring things to do, like climbing the top of a tall playground, tasting mystery foods at lunchtime, and asking a completely new friend to play on the playground and asking a completely new friend to play on the playground.
With each challenge, Ella learns that courage isn't about being fearless. It's about trying things that are new and realizing that you're even braver than you were the day before.
Book number two is called Happen to the World Maya. When her teacher shares the secret formula. Maya suddenly has a new [00:02:00] superpower so that when a friend is sneaky and her science project falls apart, or the day is just gloomy and rainy, Maya can change.
Her response to the situation and have a better outcome.
Book number three is the Listening Minute. Nico wants to be a really great listener, but he's not. So with Grandma's help, he plays the listening minute the listening minute is one minute of asking a question and listening for the answer with no interrupting.
Nico fails a few times before he figures out that not only is listening important, but listening is part of being a really great friend as well. Okay. You've heard all three. If you're not sure, go back and listen to them again, because I want you to be really excited about this concept. So the question is, is it brave and daring Day happen to the world Maya, or the listening minute?
Imagine reading one of these books [00:03:00] to your kids over and over again. Here's where you get to vote. Head over to my Facebook page and vote for your favorite because your voice and your choice will help decide which story gets created and we can make this book a treasure to families everywhere to read again and again, thanks so much for being a part of this.
